Supply Chain Management and Procurement

Working together for Safety and Environment

As the headquarters of the PROTEGO® Group, Braunschweiger Flammenfilter GmbH is responsible for 12 locations and over 650 employees worldwide. As the global market and technology leader in the field of flame arresters, valves and tank equipment for the up and downstream oil and gas, petroleum, chemical, pharmaceutical and bio-energy industries, we not only place the highest demands on ourselves, but also on our suppliers and business partners.

Your products as part of the success

We strive to make our supply chain as agile as possible. In addition to suppliers from the greater Braunschweig area, we rely on suppliers from a wide variety of regions in Germany, Europe and the world.

Our purchasing portfolio includes the following product groups:

We source cast products made of steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and occasionally special materials. Production is carried out using sand or precision casting methods. Depending on our needs, we obtain parts as raw castings or including mechanical machining.

We have needs for various fired parts, procured as molded and dimension-cut blanks. This includes items such as rings, discs, and construction parts made of steel, stainless steel, and special materials.

For the production of our products, we require various semifinished products, including bar material made of steel, stainless steel, and plastic, as well as precision strips and intermediate layers/wire mesh made of stainless steel.

To ensure the functionality of our products, we procure various formed parts. These include springs, rings as well as construction items such as deep-drawn parts and formed/welded constructions. The specifications of the individual parts are based on the respective requirements of our end product and are determined individually.

Our products are designed with flanges according to DIN and ASTM in various designs (slip-on flange, welding neck, blind flange, etc.). Depending on the intended use, we require flanges and fittings in steel, stainless steel or special materials.

Components for our products are made of steel, stainless steel, and plastics, manufactured using machining processes. Turning is predominantly the method we require.

We install diaphragms and a wide variety of seals such as flat gaskets, O-rings and comb profile seals.
We use plastics such as PTFE and EPDM as well as special materials such as Kalrez, PEEK and FEP.

For this sector, we procure complex welding assemblies and corrugated hoses.

Monitoring plants and systems is done through extensive measurement and control technology, including temperature sensors, transmitters, and proximity switches. Additionally, we need supporting components like bellows and heating tapes.

All our end products incorporate a wide variety of DIN and ISO-compliant fasteners. In addition, project-related custom-made products in steel, stainless steel and special materials are used. Depending on the need, we also require electronic and pneumatic components

We use the expertise and services of other companies to expand capacity and for product finishing. These may include machining, pickling, welding and coating (ECTFE, color painting or coating).

Requirements for our suppliers

We not only place great emphasis on technology but also value qualities such as reliability and fairness. With our suppliers, we aim for a collaborative and trusting partnership, which forms the basis of a long-term business relationship.

We have the following requirements for our suppliers:

    • ISO 9001
    • ISO 14001 (preferred)
    • Additional specific requirements/certifications depending on the manufacturing process

Sustainability and social responsibility along the supply chain

As a globally active company, we are also aware of our social responsibility and actively take measures to fulfill this responsibility towards people and the environment.

    Supplier Code of Conduct
Our actions are guided by our Supplier Code of Conduct. We also expect our business partners to uphold the worldwide preservation of human rights and responsible use of available resources. We require our suppliers recognize our Supplier Code of Conduct or acknowledge the mutual commitment to their own code if it is comparable to ours.

    Conflict Minerals Policy
We occasionally purchase products made from tantalum. These have been subject to Regulation (EU) No. 2017/821 Conflict Minerals since 01.01.2021. We fully support this regulation as part of our voluntary due diligence and request a fully completed Conflict Minerals Reporting Template (CMRT) from all affected suppliers without exception.

    Supply Chain Due Diligence Act
Even though the PROTEGO® Group is not currently subject to the extensive regulations of the Supply Chain Due Diligence Act, we consider it our societal obligation to secure our global supply chain by recognizing risks early and taking appropriate measures. Our risk management is diverse and includes supplier visits, audits, and special CSR audits with our global suppliers.
